Now Japan's leading system thus far for 2005, the DS continued to sell well during the week ending July 31.
Courtesy of Media-Create, we have the most recent sales figures from Japan.
Software sales this week were utterly dominated by a new PS2 release in the popular Super Robot Wars series. By itself, Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 approached nearly half a million units. Sony's juggernaut in fact accounted for the top 6 sellers, as a number of new titles made their debut.
On the Nintendo front Gentle Brain Exercises hung tough with a finish in the 9th slot. However, the DS' surprising hit "non-game" Brain Training fell out of the top 10 for the first time since its release nearly two months ago. The GBA was represented in the standings with the brand new Boktai 3 (which recieved excellent scores in Famitsu) while children scrounged up enough yen to keep Sega's hit Mushiking in the 10th slot.
Disappointingly, the DS' new rhythm game Ossu! Tatakae! Ouendan! did not have a strong debut despite glowing reviews and player accounts. Hopefully its fortunes will turn around as more word of mouth spreads about a title many are calling one of the DS' finest.

Despite a seemingly lower-key performance in the week's software charts, the DS continued to lead the way on the console front. The dual-screened wonder again dominated the top spot with even higher sales than the previous week. Perhaps eager manga fans are already prepping for the coming storm as the impending release of Jump Super Stars pounds ever closer.
