Charts: Latest Japanese Software & Hardware Sales

Japanese sales figures for the week spanning May 9 - May 15 show overall record lows...

Courtesy of Media-Create, we have the most recent sales figures from Japan. Disappointingly, the week saw the worst numbers in years with 286,614 total units, down roughly 50% from last week. To put the low figure in further context, last year's sales for the same period were recorded at 445,841 total units. Media-Create attributed the low mark to an overall lack of new titles for the spring period.

In regards to the individual titles on the Top 10 list, the current week showed a notable resurgence in PS2 games, relatively speaking of course. Nintendogs retained a strong presence (again, relatively) but apart from Naruto for the DS, no other Nintendo platform games joined it. Overall sales for Nintendogs currently stands at well over 400,000 for all three versions combined. Finally, the PSP snuck back into the Top 10 as well with the horse racing game Derby Time.

On the hardware side, the PS2 reclaimed the top spot, dropping the DS to number 2 with the PSP close behind. Again, hardware sales reflected sharp drops nearly all over the board from the previous week's sales.
