The winner of CE's journalist competition has been selected! It was an extremely tough decision to make, but after weeks of deliberation I can now announce our latest staffer! Paul King submitted a fantastic entry, and he has rightfully earned his place on the Cube Europe staff page. Well done Paul!
Notable mentions go to: Richard Boulton, Chris Whitsell, Lee Colarelli, Chris Dring, Antony Ellis, Ryan Reynolds, James Hamilton.
Here is the winning entry:
By Paul King:
My brother, a plumber by trade, spends most of his working day scratching his chin and drinking tea. Never one to over-exert himself, he makes sure he delegates all but the most menial of work to his hard-grafting colleagues. And, although in his time as a member of the plumbers' union he has had to deal with such unenviable quandaries as; leaky pipes, blocked drains and the odd septic-tank spillage, he has never once had to come to the assistance of a hapless Princess and her fungus laden minions. Not too surprising when you consider that, Mario - self-proclaimed plumber of nearly twenty years - has not once been seen with his hand down the u-bend of a toilet, and the only time the words, "ball" and "cock" have been used are when preceded by the name, "Luigi".
With the inevitable arrival of Super Mario Sunshine sometime before the next ice-age (or October as it's otherwise known), we can all be positively sure that the ubiquitous plumber will be carrying much more than a sack load of troubles; this time in the form of a wrap-around backpack thingy with designs as a 'ker-az-yy' water dispenser. Now, not only can you selflessly clear the streets of odious sludge and propel yourself into the ether with ease, you can also terrorise the local inhabitants with an ear full of water, from you high-pressure puddle-cannon.
No doubt bored with his copious adventures in the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario - and Peach - have rallied together their earnings and taken a much deserved holiday to an unfamiliar tropical paradise. But, even in the scorching sunshine of this Mediterranean island, Mario and company aren't nearly as half-baked as the story-line - something that seems to have been cobbled together by Nintendo script-writers over lunch-time Pot Noodle. Still, Mario has never been one for excess padding, and for a game borne from the hands of legendary designer Shigeru Miyamoto, I'm sure we can all live with the knowledge that this will be something as special as its predecessors.
