Disney Infinity announced for Wii and WiiU

Skylanders has been a huge hit since release and created some serious money for Activision and Toys for Bob's, so it was only a matter of time before more developers wanted a slice of the excessive plastic pie.

That's where Disney come in with Disney Infinity, a game that could most easily be described as a Disney themed Skylanders

In Disney Infinity, you'll be tasked with buying and collecting figures, 'Power Discs' and interactive pieces that can then be placed upon the 'Infinity base' to unlock worlds and play experiences.

The 'Disney Infinity Power Discs' are discs that can be placed upon the Infinity base to power up certain characters and unlock customisations and gadgets whilst the 40 collectible interactive pieces will allow players to expand and customise characters within the game.

There will initially be 17 figures to collect, with the starter packs coming with three figures - Mr Incredible, Sulley from Monsters, Inc. and Jack Sparrow.

The actual gameplay will be much like the 'Toy Box mode' first seen in Toy Story 3. You'll be able to play quests created by Disney or create your own adventures which will allow you to edit the world around you.

But what do Activision, creators of Skylanders, think of this new title? Are they worried about the impact it could have on their own series? Seemingly not, as John Coyne, Vice President of Consumer Marketing, said they're 'flattered' to be joined by Disney in this category.

"We are thrilled by the incredible success that the Skylanders franchise has had in such a short period of time. We are also flattered that one of the leading family entertainment companies is joining our toys to life category.

"We continue to focus on delivering innovative and immersive experiences to kids around the wolrd and are pouring more creativity into our games. As a result, we are well positioned to continue leading the category."
