Dragon Quest VIII ventures onto 3DS

The much-loved PS2 RPG Dragon Quest VIII will see a release on Nintendo 3DS, Square-Enix confirmed as it released a website for the game.

The 3DS version will add some fresh elements including a new story scenario, new party characters, and an orchestral score.

The 2004 RPG was, at the time, the first fully-3D Dragon Quest game, and managed remarkable success in the west for a series that had been mostly Japan-centric. Ironically though, we in the west may be in for quite a wait if we want our hands on this iteration. The game is confirmed only for Japan at this point, and realists may not bother holding out hope for a global launch. A 3DS remake of Dragon Quest VII was launched in Japan over two years ago, without any sign of a western release.

Dragon Quest VIII on 3DS will launch in Japan on August 27th. We'll have everything crossed for a localisation.
