E3 2004: Frogger Sequel Announced

Konami is developing a new title in the famous Frogger series for the Nintendo GameCube and Nintendo DS.

Konami today revealed that a sequel in the hit Frogger franchise is being developed for the upcoming handheld systems, PSP and DS, as well as next-generation consoles, PS2 and GameCube. Taking the classic "hop-n-dodge" gameplay to new heights, the games will feature innovative gameplay, new characters, and dynamic environments, with more levels than previous games in the popular franchise.

"We're taking the easy pick-up-and-play, hop-n-dodge gameplay, and expanding it to create new and compelling content for fans of the series," said Erica Mason, product manager, Konami Digital Entertainment - America. "Frogger has become a household name and the franchise is a perfect fit for the new handheld systems, bringing an element of nostalgia as well as exciting new gameplay to consumers."

The games will feature dozens of unlockable items, mini-games and new playable characters, including Lumpy, a friendly and carefree toad, and Berry, a fourteen year old Amazon frog who performs as an acrobat in a traveling caravan. Each of the playable characters will have their own unique gameplay and features. In addition, players can perform new moves for all playable characters such as vertical jump, swing and stomp, adding more depth to the popular gameplay. Up to four players will also be able to compete in the numerous mini-games for some friendly competition.

Frogger captured the hearts of gamers everywhere when it first appeared in arcades in 1981. More than 20 years later with over seven million games sold to date, Frogger continues to be one of the most memorable and beloved pop culture icons.

Frogger (working title) is slated for release in 2005.
