Surprisingly, Retro Studios aren't behind the DS' Metroid Prime: Hunters. Wait, it gets stranger.

According to N-Philes, fan favourites Retro Studios aren't developing the Nintendo DS Metroid game, Metroid Prime: Hunters. This will come as a shock to many Samus fans, as the game is seemingly very similar to Prime in both gameplay and title.

Even more surprising was the revelation that Retro didn't even know about the game until its appearance at yesterday's pre-E3 conference.

This begs the question, exactly who is behind Hunters? Could it be in-house? And why didn't Retro know about it?

Update It seems the company behind Metroid Prime: Hunters is none other than NST, the guys behind the incredible Wave Race.
