The "music creation tool" ElectroPlankton is spotlighted at the head of Nintendo's E3 Press Conference with a live performance.
At Nintendo's E3 2005 Conference Reggie came out the gate pushing the innovative capabilities of the Nintendo DS, particularly in the form of software many would not quite classify as a traditonal "game".
ElectroPlankton, which Reggie dubbed a "creative tool", was shown to this end, but the demonstration was given a unique twist. Showing a video interview with David Hollands, a DJ who utilized the unique sound functions of ElectroPlankton, the software's power to deliver unique and upbeat music was highlighted. In the video, Hollands was shown in his studio mixing in original and dynamically produced cuts of ElectroPlankton music with his dance beats, and later above a club dance spinning his creations.
To further drive the point home, Reggie then introduced David live to the crowd, and asked him to demonstrate in front of the crowd just what the software could pull off. Working off two DS' behind his mixing equipment, David preceded to put on a rockin' demonstration of the synthesized and totally real-time music.
With ElectroPlankton meant as a demonstration and a challenge for others to experiment with software that is aimed to satisfy a different target user need, one had to wonder why Nintendo would spotlight the game at E3 after previously commenting that the music toy would likely not make it to Western shores...it would seem after the demonstration that Nintendo does indeed have plans to allow ElectroPlankton to be experienced by a wider audience.
More to come from the show floor on hopefully many other examples of wide-reaching software such as this one.
