E3 2005: DS Wireless Service Takes Off

We announce the games you'll be playing with people around the world on your DS from the end of this year.

Cube-Europe reported earlier that DS versions of Mario Kart, Animal Crossing and Tony Hawk games were all planned by the year's end. These will indeed be the first to utilise the "Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection", which is described as "a groundbreaking portable, wireless gaming network".

"Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection has an immediate user base of more than 5 million Nintendo DS owners worldwide, and it's growing every day," says George Harrison of , Nintendo of America, who commented on the strong points of the service today in the E3 Conference, explaining the service would use very easy setup procedures and would not need added service fees.

Nintendo and it's Wi-Fi Connection partner IGN Entertainment's new network will mean any gamer can connect wirelessly at any Wi-Fi hub, find their friends and begin racing, battling or chatting as easily as if they were sitting in the same room. You'll also be able to post high scores and even have some online storage space to save game data.

More than 25 publishers worldwide are working on titles that will use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, and currently here is the known list of who is working on what.
