E3 2006: First 4 Figures Secures Metroid Deal

Metroid collectibles are on the horizon, as First 4 Figures signs a three-year deal with Nintendo!

On the day that Metroid Prime: Hunters is released in Europe, First 4 Figures has announced a three-year licensing agreement with Nintendo for the rights to create collectibles based on the Metroid franchise.

"We are extremely excited to be working with First 4 Figures to develop a line of figures inspired by Metroid," said Gail Tilden, VP of Nintendo Brand Management. "Metroid fans have come to expect the best from our video games and we are confident First 4 Figures will deliver the same quality with their statues."

"We will be using original Metroid game data for the majority of the collectibles," says Darren Martin, director of First 4 Figures. "This will enable us to create highly accurate collectibles that remain faithful to the original source."

There are plans for single statues and VS dioramas - the first of which will be previewed at this E3 on Nintendo's own stand, with the products themselves anticipated to come to market in the third quarter of 2006. They will be available in collectible and specialty stores worldwide and online retailers as well as directly at the First 4 Figures website.

They will stand approximately 9 to 12 inches tall and will retail for $85 to $120 for single statues and $200+ for high end VS dioramas.

Current product development plans include, but not limited to:

  • Varia Suit (Metroid Prime)
  • Light Suit (Metroid Prime 2)
  • Dark Suit (Metroid Prime 2)
  • Samus (Hunters)
  • Kanden (Hunters)
  • Sylux (Hunters)
  • Noxus (Hunters)
  • Spire (Hunters)
  • Weavel (Hunters)
  • Trace (Hunters)
  • Nintendo has already recently signed with the company for them to create figures based on the Zelda series too. The company also manufacture and market figures for WWE, Magic: The Gathering, Transformers, GI Joe and Doom: The Movie.
