E3 2006: HD For The Future?

No high-def on the Wii, but it's likely for the successor, says Miyamoto.

It may seem a bit jumping the gun, reporting on Nintendo's successor to the still-not-released Wii, but we're an impatient bunch. At an E3 Q&A session, Shigeru Miyamoto defended Nintendo's decision not to go with high-definition for the Wii, claiming there isn't enough people with HD televisions at the moment. The company is more concerned with making something "that anyone can pick up, interact with and enjoy - rather than only the people who have a very high-tech, specific kind of TV set".

However, he said that "five years down the road it would be pretty much a given that Nintendo would create an HD system". So there you go.
