E3 2006: Nintendo Reveal 'Classic Controller'

We're not sure how much of a 'shell' this is... but Nintendo has just revealed the Wii's "Classic Controller" online. See it inside!

Left un-mentioned at the E3 press conference earlier today, many were left wondering what had happend to the promised 'controller shell' from Nintendo. Now, pictures and some small details of what Nintendo is calling the "Classic Controller" have appeared online.

The pad appears to have two analogue sticks and a D-pad, ABXY buttons, L and R shoulder buttons plus two 'Z' buttons: ZL and ZR. Additionally, it has the Wii's Home, + and - buttons (the plus and minus ones standing in for the traditional Start and Select).

It's unclear at the moment if this will still fit over the Wii Remote for the added functionality, but it will apparently be your controller of choice for playing Virtual Console and GameCube titles, as well as games for the Wii that won't use the free-hand style controller.
