E3 2006: No Sequel For Game Boy Soon?

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata states that he would have "second thoughts" about allocating resources to develop a new Game Boy right now.

Speaking to Reuters, the Nintendo president cast doubt on whether a new incarnation of the Game Boy will be forthcoming any time soon. "I would have a second thought about using our resources on what would be the next generation of Game Boy Advance, considering the strong support DS is now enjoying," he said, explaining that the "the Japanese game market is now evolving around DS. We don't need to do something that will pour cold water on the situation."

Going on to talk about Wii, he mentioned that the amount of launch titles will definately be in the double digits, saying he was aware "that we cannot win user support by offering only a few titles at the launch like we did for Nintendo 64 and GameCube."

Finally, he said that if Nintendo suceeds in breaking down the wall in the household of people who play games and non-gamers, "there is a good chance that we can be number one."
