E3 2006: Red Steel Information

Ubisoft have shown off Red Steel and all its capabilities during the Nintendo conference, find out what they said and showed inside.

Reggie invited some of Ubisoft's team up to the stage during the E3 conference to show off Red Steel; how it looks and what exactly it can do. And boy, did it deliver!

To control the game you use the nun-chuck in your left hand, and the free hand controller in the right hand. Presumably that can be switched for any left-handed players. The nun-chuck allows you to move, while the free handed controller controls the gun and allows you to look around. This means, that you move the gun using the controller just as you would in real life.

As one person controller the game through a beautifully neon-lit Asian city you could really see how hard they had worked to make the game breathtaking. From the vibrant neon lights, to the huge breathtaking fires and real-time physics.

Explaining a bit more about how the game works it was stated that the game will feature more intelligent AI, whereby the enemies will run, hide or attack after assessing the situation. There will also be a 'clan system', whereby a gang will have a leader. If you kill or disarm the leader, the gang members will act for themselves.

By holding a button players will also be able to freeze time, and decide upon whether to shoot the enemies, or try and make them submit to you. To do this you use the nun-chuck and motion them to get down on the floor (just like in all those bank hold-ups you see in films).

At one striking point the player was ducking down and shot a fish tank, and the water and fish came rushing out in a beautiful and realistic way.

Finally, the sword fighting was shown. You block with your nun chuck, and slash in ANY direction with the free hand controller meaning there are lots of combinations. As was stated, it will be easy to pick up, and difficult to master.
