Those curious about Nibris' black and white Wii title have known a trailer was coming, and now the wait is over...
Screens of the trailer have been popping up around the net over the last two weeks and lead to much debate as to how many of them may have shown in-game footage, it was hoped that when the trailer was shown we would see in-game footage aplenty. However there still isn't much revealed at all. Most of the it features the person playing the game "inside" the game, ie: instead of showing in-game footage they dressed the player in the characters clothes and put her in similar situations/backgrounds that the games character will be in. The one minute long trailer can be found on IGN here.
Hopefully we won't have to wait too much longer for the Polish developers to release solid in-game screens and videos. Stay tuned to R-E for updates as they come.
Update: Nibris have just issued a press release to go with the trailer, where they state they are proud to present the first teaser for the game, an exclusive title for the Nintendo Wii. Realised with the use of cinematic technique by one of Poland's most talented film creators (Stanislaw Maderek apparently well known from his cult Star Wars Parody "Stars in Black") the teaser is only a presentation of some of the ideas that Nibris are going to use in the final game.
"From understandable reasons we could not present all of ideas that we wanted to put in a final game. Also an atmosphere will be slightly different the film presents mainly action while the game itself will befocusing more on climate and internal experiences of Sadness of chief characters" states Peter Orłowski, Nibris PR.
The teaser shows Maria, one of two main characters in the game that the player will be able to control. The second character will apparently be something new to the horror genre, and will be presented later. It is repeated that Sadness is a game for adult gamers with strong nerves. The game takes up the topics of illnesses such as schizophrenia, narcolepsy and nycto nyctophobia and will contain conventions known from the noir film genre.
"Projected by us title will be totally black and white like a sadness. Cinematic way of looking will bereflected in a game style of presentation. We will do everything to not only make gamer feel like watchinga normal film, but also to really become one of its characters" states Marek "Omen" Okoń, visual artist and Sadness concept arts creator.
Game action will take place before year 1914 (World War I beginning) in Ukraine. Reasons for this choice are justifed by one of the screenwriters, Adam Artur Antolski: "Ukraine means at the border. Some time ago this land was a border between Polish-LithuanianCommonwealth, Russian Empire and Ottoman Empire. This is the reason for Ukraine to be some sort of melting pot of several different cultures of east and west. This internal pluralism results in totally uniquecountry beliefs of the people from that part of the world. [The] First World War is some sort of boundary this war was one of the greatest disasters of Europe civilization thatchanged the societies utterly. Mentality of people of the period demanded secretiveness of internalproblems, both psychic and life. In this type of community chances of developing schizophrenia was prettylarge. It was after war that psychoanalyze was created, customs become relaxed and people started toown up to their problems.
Nibris also praised Nintendo for its consistent action, saying it was of the firm opinion that the Wii capabilities showed at this year's E3 makes the console a completely new class of electronic device that will be attractive and available even for people that do not usually play video games. Nibris is convinced that many people do not realize that we are currently witnessing a revolution in gaming. "It is completely different stage a turning point for entire industry. In a few years sight of a grandpa waving the Wii controller with his grandson will not weird for anyone. Possibilities of use are limited only developersimagination. We would like to express our great respect Mr. Iwata and his company who decided to takeno heed of trends and rouse vide game industry from torpor. Nintendo does not look at the moves of thecompetition. They do create new trends on their own and become their determinant," added Nibris representatives.
