E3 2006: Wii-Mote Will Have Speaker

Nintendo confirm one of the last of Wii's secrets - the newly added speaker in the freehand controller. Picture inside!

Confirming news broke yesterday by EGM magazine, Nintendo revealed that the free-hand controller will have a speaker inside, allowing music or sound-effects to be played from it. This, as well as rumble and the full motion-sensing technology!

In Zelda, with the sound of your bow firing right next to your ear and your television screen emitting the satisying "thunk" of the arrow hitting your enemy, you will be able to feel a real depth in sound with Wii games supporting this feature.

The final controller looks as follows:

Note the new holes for the speaker, and the final(?) names for the buttons. Start and Select have become "+" and "-", while the X and Y buttons have become "1" and "2". The controller also now includes Wii branding. For completists out there, the nunchuku also has small re-designs - "Z1" & "Z2" are now "Z" & "C", and one of them is now an analogue trigger button, as the Cube has.
