E3 2007: Animal Crossing Still Coming

Miyamoto muses on Animal Crossing's no show at E3.

Fans of the Animal Crossing series will have found themselves disappointed by its no show at E3. This was made even harder to stomach by the fact that when the Wii first launched it was given a loose release date of 2007, this coupled with the Japanese anime of Animal Crossing saying "see you soon" made it seem a cert for at least being shown.

However fear not, its no show at Nintendo's Conference doesn't mean they've forgotten about our favourite animal village. Miyamoto was keen to point this out and said that the team who have developed the three Animal Crossing games are working on other projects. He pointed out that the director of Animal Crossing Wild World, Mr. Nogami, was the man responsible for the Mii Channel, but that "Recently he said he really wants to get back to work on Animal Crossing again, so hopefully we'll be able to show something to people before too long."

In addition to this, the latest Super Smash Bros. Brawl update from Sakurai has revealed that an Animal Crossing town (the level is entitled "Smashville") will be a playable level. Familiar villager faces such as Tom Nook will show up to watch the fight and the level even utilises the Wii's internal clock to create day and night levels, just like in the real Animal Crossing game! And if that wasn't enough, the internal clock is also used to summon a musical guest, K.K. Slider to the level where he will play a song for the fighters on Saturdays at 8:00PM.

So with that in mind perhaps we could be seeing Animal Crossing Wii getting unveiled at the Tokyo Games Show later this year, if Nintendo decide to show up at all? Hopefully with its reported WiiConnect24 centric gameplay being shown off to the world.
