E3 2007: Third Party Interest In Balance Board

The daddy of gaming, Shigsy, reveals that third-party developers have shown an interest in utilising the recently announced Wii Balance Board in future games...
Earlier this week, N-Europe reported on Nintendo's revelation of their new non-game WiiFit and the Wii Balance Board, which acts similarly to a pair of scales and allows you to use your own balance to control games. Now, according to a Q&A with Miyamoto at E3, it seems that third-parties want in on the health-upping goodness.
Shigeru "Shigsy" Miyamoto, who brought gaming back from the dead after reprogramming the doomed Radar Scope into Donkey Kong back in the 80s and went on to create the famous franchises Mario and Zelda, did not name the third parties who have been enquiring about using the new peripheral in future Wii titles. Something that many fans thought of though after the revelation of the Balance Board, however, was how it would be used in games such as SSX and Tony Hawk's on the Wii. The possibilities go far beyond WiiFit.
Something else related to the Balance Board came out of the same Q&A. Health services have been asking Nintendo how the board could be used in rehabilitation situations. This is not surprising considering the Wii has been used to entertain recovering wounded soldiers and the DS's Brain Training has been used in Alzeimer's nursing homes as a learning tool and to help to keep Alzeimer sufferers' brains active.
Stay tuned to N-Europe for the latest on WiiFit and other uses for the Wii Balance Board.
