Telltale Games, masters of the adventure game genre, have confirmed that they will be releasing an episodic series of Monkey Island games on WiiWare.
In a move that is sure to please adventure game purists, LucasArts and Telltale Games have announced a new partnership that will see Telltale producing a series of five new episodic instalments in the Monkey Island series for the PC and WiiWare.
Tales of Monkey Island sees the classic franchise revived in 3D, following in the footsteps of the sublime Sam & Max. Starting with the first episode, Launch of the Screaming Narwhal, the five titles will be released on a monthly basis, with the aforementioned premiere launching on July 7th, little over a month away.
The long-awaited revival sees Guybrush Threepwood ridding his arch-nemesis LeChuck the pirate of his "demonic mojo", thus unwittingly infecting the entire Caribbean with said mojo. The threat escalates as pirates begin to transform into horrific monsters, and Guybrush soon embarks on an epic quest to track down a legendary sea sponge which holds the power of extreme exfoliation to solve his nasty zombification problem.
Telltale's release schedule should, hopefully, be as follows in Europe...
- Launch of the Screaming Narwhal - July 2009
- The Siege of Spinner Cay - August 2009
- Lair of the Leviathan - September 2009
- The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood - October 2009
- Rise of the Pirate God - November 2009
On another note, The Secret of Monkey Island will also be re-released in high definition and with a re-mastered score on the Xbox 360 and PC this Summer. We'll have more on Tales of Monkey Island as it breaks, but in the meantime you can read up on your Monkey Island history by checking out the new official website.
