Metroid Dread

E3 2009: Metroid Dread Is Real

A co-creator of the Metroid series has confirmed the existence of the long-rumoured Metroid Dread.

Remember Metroid Dread? Yep, it's the Metroid game that no one has ever seen. Revealed by an American magazine in 2005 to be a 2D side-scrolling DS follow-up to Metroid Fusion, Dread has since gone almost completely dark.

Speaking to Kotaku, Yoshio Sakamoto, co-creator of the Metroid series, revealed that Metroid: Other M was conceived in 2006 and is not related to the Metroid Dread project.

However, he did reveal that he was "very familiar" with Dread, and it may possibly see a release in the future.

Retro Studios tucked what many believed to be a reference to Metroid Dread into Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. The following message was discovered when Samus scanned a terminal in the Metroid Processing facility: "Experiment status report update: Metroid project 'Dread' is nearing the final stages of completion."

Whilst Metroid: Other M takes the series in a new direction, would you welcome a return to Samus' 2D side-scrolling roots on the DS?
