E3 2009: Microsoft Unveils Project Natal

Microsoft's rumoured motion control device for the Xbox 360 has just been fully unveiled at their press conference. Brace yourselves...
Nintendo evidently predicted something like this when they seemed to attempt a pre-emptive trump card against Microsoft last year with the early revelation of the Wiimote-beefing MotionPlus. One year later, Microsoft have indeed prepared their own first foray into the motion control market with the revelation of Project Natal.
Natal is a highly advanced camera and microphone combo which is placed in front of the TV, and allows the player to use their entire body to play a game and navigate menus thanks to 3D tracking. The demo shown at Microsoft's E3 2009 press conference demonstrated how users can use their bodies to play games; players were shown gripping invisible steering wheels, scanning skateboards and picking out virtual dresses through the power of Natal.
Peter Molyneux, the president of Lionhead Studios and the mastermind behind the Fable franchise, introduced a piece of software utilising Natal which featured a boy called "Milo", who responds to gestures, interacts with players and is even capable of having a conversation.
Early reports indicate that the device will launch in 2010 at the earliest, with an estimated retail price of around $200. Could this be a Wii killer, or have Microsoft arrived on the scene a little too late to compete? Natal will only be shown behind closed doors at E3 this week, but we'll be sure to have more details on this very soon.
