E3 2010: Nickelodeon Fit Announced

2K Play and Nickelodeon are teaming up to create Nickelodeon Fit, a title designed to keep children active.

Nickelodeon Fit promises to encourage children to keep active, something that is a growing concern in society as obesity rates rise, by using their most popular characters such as Dora, The Backyardigans, Diego and more.

The title has been developed with Dr. Jackie Goodway, an exercise science expert, to ensure it helps children to get active. The title features cardiovascular activities alongside exercises that focus on areas of the body such as balance, core muscles, the upper and lower body and many more.

Much like Wii Fit the title will make use of the Balance Board. Players will be able to get exercise in games such as jump rope, river rafting and playing on a pogo stick alongside their favourite Nickelodeon characters. Parents shall be able to track their children's progress on the game to ensure they are meeting their exercise requirements. Customisable routines that focus on specific requirements will also be featured to ensure the title really meets the needs of the individual.

"We're excited to introduce a product that helps address the evolving recommendations for children to engage in physical activity, in a game where breaking a sweat with your Nickelodeon friends is not only fun but can be heart healthy," said Steve Lux, vice president of business development for 2K Play.

"Our association has found that many children are not engaging in enough physical activity to promote positive health outcomes," said Dr. Goodway, chair of the National Association of Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) "Active Start" physical activity guidelines committee. "Nickelodeon Fit employs four principles to help counter this trend: frequency, intensity, time and type, thus encouraging gamers to exercise regularly, try activities with different intensity levels, extend their exercise time and add variety to their daily regimen."
