E3 2010: Nintendo Planning 3D Wii Successor

Want Nintendo's next console faster? The company is waiting on more people to purchase 3D TVs!

While Nintendo unveiled full details on its upcoming 3D-capable handheld this week at E3, rumours have persisted of the company also working on a new home console to replace the Wii.

According to company president Satoru Iwata, Nintendo's next home console will be 3D compatible - he is simply waiting for more people to adopt 3D televisions before it can be released. Asked whether there were plans for the Wii to adopt 3D, Iwata replied:

"If you display a 3D image [on a standard definition console], the image quality becomes extremely bad, so we'd probably do it with the next system. We're thinking that the timing should be once the 3D television adoption rates crosses the 30 percent mark. We're looking at the adoption trends."

So, get buying those 3D TVs! Apparently there's some big sporting event going on which you can watch in the meantime...
