E3 2010: Sony Hints At Possible PSP2 Reveal

As Nintendo prepare to blow the lid off the highly anticipated 3DS, Sony may be ready to unleash some thunder stealin' shenanigans.

Back in March, Nintendo effectively declared the dawn of a new handheld console war with the announcement of the 3DS, a three-dimensional successor to the DS. Save a few cryptic hints, it's all been relatively quiet on Sony's end so far.

Yesterday evening, Sony updated their official E3 website with a statement teasing that "awesome PlayStation games and hardware are being revealed". The hardware bit could be a reference to the upcoming PlayStation Move, though it has been speculated that Sony will show off the successor to the PSP in some form during the event.

Industry analyst Michael Pachter recently suggested that Sony will announce a touch-screen PSP2 at E3, and that the device may launch in 2011. Following the sub-par sales of the revamped PSP Go!, it's likely that Sony won't be totally reliant on the digital-only model this time round.

Sony's E3 2010 press conference is due to take place on Tuesday 15th of June at 8PM GMT, shortly after the end of Nintendo's two-hour conference. N-Europe will be posting some of the highlights during and just after the conference, so keep checking back for any more developments.
