E3 2010: Vitality Sensor Still In The Pipeline

Wondering where the Vitality Sensor was at E3? Shigeru Miyamoto explains its absence...

One of the pleasures we were certain would make an appearance at E3 was Nintendo's Vitality Sensor. NCL executives had led everyone to believe that the first software for the pulse-measuring device would be premiered this week, but its shock absence has left us scratching our heads, with many playfully musing that the peripheral had been scrapped.

Speaking to IGN, Nintendo's general manager and all-round demi-god Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that the company's plans for the Vitality Sensor were still on-track.

"It's actually progressing quite well. We could have shown it here at E3 if we wanted to, but the environment here isn't really suited to that game. E3 is pretty exciting, and that's a device that's all about relaxation. So it just wasn't the best time or place to show that game. But it is ready, so we'll probably find another place that's more suitable to announce it. But I'm not directly involved in that project."

So anybody worried about the fate of Vitality should have their nerves calmed. We imagine Nintendo will set aside a separate event to showcase the device within a few weeks, but hey, what do we know?
