After much speculation it has now been confirmed that the Wii U will not support the GameCube.

After not being mentioned in any press releases, it has now been confirmed by Mark Franklin, Nintendo of America Director of Public Relations, that the upcoming Wii U will not support GameCube functionalities.

This includes backwards compatibility with games, controller and memory card support despite some Wii games supporting the GameCube controller.
