E3 2011: THQ Comments on Wii U & uDraw

The Wii U isn't the only tablet-like device that lets you do some drawing...

Last year THQ released a graphics tablet-like accessory for the Nintendo Wii called uDraw that let gamers show off their artistic side. On Tuesday Nintendo unveiled their new console, the Nintendo Wii U, that also features a tablet-like control that let's you draw.

Martin Good, exec VP of THQ's Kids, Family and Casual Games, however is not annoyed by these similarities. He states that the company never intended to become a peripheral maker and if anything having a first party tool that allows for more drawing games is a good thing for all involved. Speaking to CVG he stated:

"Well no, not really. None of this is a surprise. As you know, we thought of it 18 months ago and released it last season. We think we're really on the front for it and well poised to exploit this because we've already been playing with the drawing mechanic and we've got a lot of game designs in the pipe. It's only going to get better with that experience. That other thing that's really interesting is that THQ never really went about being a peripheral manufacturer - that wasn't our intent. But we had to do so to exploit this new gameplay opportunity and that broader market."
