E3 2011: Wii U to Have Proprietary Discs, 1080p

Reggie talks up the Wii U's ability to compete with current HD consoles...

In a post-conference interview with GameTrailers, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed that the Wii U console will support 1080p high definition graphics.

He also confirmed that Wii U software will come on custom-built, proprietary discs which will be a significant upgrade from the current DVD standard the Wii utilises. Reggie wouldn't discuss the capacity of the discs, but he did state that they were not based on Blu-Ray discs, and they would not pose a restriction for developers looking to make high-end games.

We've got a tonne more Wii U details coming through, so stay tuned.
