EA has just held its Summer Showcase event, where it has confirmed two of its staple franchises for Wii U. Both Madden NFL 13 and FIFA 13 will be launching on Nintendo's upcoming system this year.
Madden 13 was revealed to use the Wii U GamePad in expected but still-tantalising ways. During gameplay, you can use the touch-screen to draw the movement of any of your off-the-ball players and create smart play-moves on the fly.
FIFA 13 uses the GamePad in arguably deeper ways. You can have the second screen showing the same traditional view as the main screen, and you'll be able to pass the ball with pin-point precision using the touch screen. You can also enable an option where the second screen turns into a giant net when you get a goal-scoring opportunity, allowing you to swiftly tap where you want to shoot. Another use sees the player physically aim the GamePad during a free-kick, allowing you to aim where to kick the ball.
If you're feeling a little more tactical, you can activate 'Manager Mode', which sees the GamePad screen becoming an all-seeing tactic hub. Your team formation, team stats and match stats are all displayed, allowing you to view and alter your tactics - as well as make the smartest substitutions - all on the fly without the need to pause.
Finally, a co-op mode was also demonstrated, which allows one player to move about your team's players using the GamePad touch screen, whilst a second player controls the action with a traditional controller.
FIFA 13 was confirmed to be a Wii U launch title.
