EA Day: Freekstyle Impressions

The first game we got to play at EA was also one of the coolest, Freekstyle. Freekstyle is a motor cross game, where you can race through several race circuits against other racers. This is not the most important element of the game though. Freekstyle allows you to perform over 100 stunts, which make it the ultimate stunt game.
I of course chose to ride with hot babe Leeann Tweeden, who turns out to be a former Miss Supercross and a TV-host in real life. Off I go, racing against those other drivers. Performing those stunts turns out to be pretty difficult. EA employee Martijn tells us that it will take you quite some time before you get an idea of how to do a good, difficult stunt. So I just tried to do some basic stunts, which usally resulted in falling hard on my face or landing flat on my back.
After Tim and I failed big time, Martijn gave us a stunt demonstration. The game has three 'freekstyle-locations' - stunt arenas with several ramps and half pipes. Martijn shows us in one of these levels that he's 10 times better than us, performing some very cool stunts. The most impressive one was jumping off a high ramp, then jump off your bike, perform a stunt in the air and catch your bike again. The more stunts you perform, the more you raise a meter in the top right hand corner. If you fall, it goes down again. Martijn manages to get the meter completely full, and now he is in 'freek-mode' (at least that's what he calls it). First you hang in the air, and the camera moves Matrix-style around you. Then you can go again, but then ten times faster, allowing you to score much more points when performing stunts.
We played only a beta-version, so the game wasn't finished yet. This showed in the graphics, though they still looked good. Since the graphics will still be improved upon, I'm sure the final version will look excellent.
As we've come to expect from EA, Freekstyle will also get licensed music, like the Fifa games and F1 2002 already have. Thus making the gaming experience that little but better.
Overall, Freekstyle is a very fun and impressive game. The stunts look very impressive. They are tough though, so it's a challenge to all die hard gamers. I'm sure you won't put this game away after a couple of days, the stunt-element and then multiplayer option will make Freekstyle a game that you'll be playing for years.
