EA revealed details about the Nintendo Switch version of FIFA at their recent E3 event.
FIFA will be launching on Nintendo Switch on September 29th and will include 'FIFA Ultimate Team' which boasts online and offline seasons as well as squad building challenges. A Career Mode, Kick-Off mode, Women's International Cup, online tournaments and skills games will also be playable in the Nintendo Switch version. Local seasons will be playable across two Switch consoles.
While the Nintendo Switch FIFA will not be running on the new Frostbite engine, it is being developed by EA Vancouver and EA Romania and boasts 'Physically Based Rendering'. The game will output 720p in handheld mode and 1080p when docked.
The game’s Producer, Andrei Lăzărescu, said the Switch version 'takes advantage of the console’s unique portability'.
FIFA 18 on Nintendo Switch is the best FIFA you can take with you anywhere, play anytime and with anyone. We’re delivering the immersive and authentic experience that fans expect from FIFA, while leveraging innovative ways to play both at home and on the go with Nintendo Switch.
Ultimate Team fans will get to participate in beloved features like Squad Building Challenges, Online and Offline Seasons, Tournaments, and Draft. Players will enjoy live campaigns connected to the narrative of the football season, the Transfer Market, and more Ultimate Team features that will be revealed very soon.
The game takes advantage of the console’s unique portability, allowing players to enjoy the game in docked, handheld or tabletop mode, and utilizing local multiplayer connection for Local Seasons. Multiple control schemes are also featured, so whether you prefer to play handheld, dual Joy-Con, single Joy-Con or Pro Controller, there’s an option to fit your playstyle.
In addition to unique control and gameplay features, as well as a robust FIFA Ultimate Team, players can participate in Local Seasons across two Switch consoles, as well as Kick-Off mode, Career, Online Seasons, Tournaments, Women’s International Cup and Skill Games.
While Switch players may have initially been wary of this version and perhaps expecting a bare-bones experience, it seems as though it will in fact feature most of the modes players are after, only missing Journey mode.
