EA to develop new Star Wars games

Last month, Disney shut down LucasArts and have now signed a deal with EA, meaning that future games in the franchise will be developed by the gaming giant.

These Star Wars titles are set to be designed for a 'core audience' and to appear on all interactive platforms, covering some of the most popular game genres.

Despite this, Disney will still retain rights to develop new titles in the franchise for other formats such as mobile, social, tablet and online areas.

Three studios will be on board for development within EA; DICE, Visceral and Bioware. EA President Frank Gibeau has promised that fans can expect games based on films and even ones with stories of their own.

"Every Developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars Universe. Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWAre team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise.

The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay."
