Posted 29 Aug 2002 at 16:15 by Gerben
The Nintendo Breakfast 2002 is a chance to catch up with all the news from the worldwide leader in interactive entertainment, plus a look towards a bright future and success-filled Christmas season.
Hosted by the voice of Big Brother himself, the presentation takes place in a specially designed Nintendo Big Brother house. David Gosen, Managing Director, Nintendo of Europe, is invited into the diary room to give his take on the success of NINTENDO GAMECUBE & Game Boy Advance across Europe, and why the future continues to look as bright as a Christmas bauble. In addition, a specially recorded address from Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo Co. Ltd. offers us the global view.
Nintendo sought the opinions of people on the street, and here present a selection of what they had to say about Nintendo and the games industry in general. During the interviews Mario unsurprisingly finds himself the subject of conversation more than once.
Their very special guest from America, Charles Martinet, has been the voice of Mario since the moustachioed Italian started talking 12 years ago. During the breakfast Charles also braves the diary room to tell us more about what it takes to fill the shoes of the world's most famous pixellated plumber.
The video games industry is booming, and Nintendo are looking forward to an exciting & successful Christmas. The ultimate in handheld entertainment, Game Boy Advance, which has sold 4 million in Europe to date, will find its way onto many more Christmas lists. Following a phenomenal 1million sales across Europe in 11 weeks since launch, NINTENDO GAMECUBE, the small cube with the big punch, is expected to sell 3 million by the end of 2002.
The outstanding range of games for both platforms that will be available by the time Santa comes to visit, include some of the biggest titles ever to grace a Nintendo console. The 300 plus titles available by Christmas for Game Boy Advance will include the latest in the legendary series of Mario hand held games, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, and the hotly anticipated Metroid Fusion featuring the feminine wiles of gun-toting Samus.
On NINTENDO GAMECUBE, Mario takes his first starring role in the hotly anticipated Super Mario Sunshine, while Fox McCloud takes us on an epic inter-galactic quest in Star Fox Adventures and Nintendo re-writes the script with their psychological thriller Eternal Darkness. Meanwhile Resident Evil makes its first of many exclusive appearances and, with a staggering 100 games for NINTENDO GAMECUBE by Christmas, gamers young and old are set for a Christmas crammed full of Nintendo goodies.
David Gosen, Managing Director, Nintendo of Europe:-
"We've had an extremely busy and successful year. NINTENDO GAMECUBE launched in a blaze of glory and style and sold 1 million in just 11 weeks. Meanwhile Game Boy Advance continues to be seen in 4 million of the right hands across Europe.
And, we have only just started. Our Christmas season sees Mario show us what the combination of NINTENDO GAMECUBE and the genius of Shigeru Miyamoto can really achieve with Super Mario Sunshine, while Eternal Darkness proves that only Nintendo will do things that differently not to mention the 300 plus titles on Game Boy Advance."
