Ex-Rare devs reveal Banjo Kazooie spiritual successor

Banjo-Kazooie fans might want to have a sit down, with today's reveal of a brand new project from the core team behind the classic N64 platformer.
Playtonic Games is a small team made up of six veterans from the golden age of the former Nintendo studio. Between them, Chris Sutherland, Gavin Price, Steve Mayles, Jens Restemeier, Steve Hurst and Mark Stevenson have over a hundred years of experience at Rare, and are now returning to the 3D platforming scene for what is being billed as a spiritual successor to one of the most highly-regarded 3D games ever. Perhaps even more excitingly, stalwart musical composers from the old Rare days David Wise, Grant Kirkhope and Steve Burke are also on board.
Titled only 'Project Ukelele' for the time being, Playtonic's creation is a completely original universe of characters, with the ultimate goal of making individual titles for each of them. For now though, the team divulged just a tiny look at the inaugural platformer.
Playtonic is optimistic about getting the game out there off their own backs, but is planning a Kickstarter campaign to help the project reach its potential. Ukelele is being built on the Unity engine, and a PC release is the only thing that is a given at this point.
However, Price does acknowledge the deep Nintendo roots within the team, and also says that "499 out of 500" emails the studio receive are pleading for a Wii U version. They even openly talk about their desire to create their own amiibo figurines for the game. If you want to see Project Ukelele hit Wii U, then it looks like the best thing to do is let Playtonic know, through the upcoming Kickstarter or otherwise.
Price and his team were debuting Project Ukelele at Eurogamer's Rezzed event. You can watch the full presentation below courtesy of EGX.
