Feature: 3DS Software Update News Round-Up

Feel that you've lost track of all the 3DS software update information? Fret not, we have you covered!

With the 3DS software update merely days away Nintendo has released a lot of new information all at once, meaning it can become quite easy to lose track of exactly what is going on. The software update will be launched on June 7th, or June 6th in America, and will open up a whole new aspect of the 3DS.

One of the most anticipated new features is the eShop, a virtual shop whereby you can view game information and purchase titles. The eShop will feature several virtual console titles as well as the 3D Classic version of Excitebike, available for free during the first month. More information about what to expect at launch can be found here.

In addition to this Nintendo recently announced that a free Pokédex 3D app will be available at launch, allowing you to view information about Pokémon as well as view them in the real world thanks to augmented reality.

DSi owners will be pleased to finally be able to play their DSiWare games again, although not all of them can be transferred unfortunately. Initially it was reported that nineteen titles wouldn't make it but that has since been updated to eleven by Nintendo. However, your sound and photo data can be transferred across.

The eShop service will feature an extensive search mode, charts to show you what is popular, virtual shelves and the ability to rate titles if you have played them for more than an hour. Some more information about each of these aspects can be found here.

In addition to all of this trailers for the virtual console titles and the 3D Classic version of Excitebike have been released and can all be watched so that you can get an insight into how they will look. Be sure to link your eShop account to your Club Nintendo account for extra benefits too!

The eShop is by no means the only thing coming in next week's software update. The 3DS Internet Browser will also being included. The browser unfortunately cannot handle plugins such as Flash but you can view and save 3D images and even view websites in 3D if they have been optimised.

Unfortunately 3D videos will not be available at the moment but Nintendo promises that they will be coming in the "near future".

An update to the SpotPass service will also be included, allowing you to access SpotPass at any of a number of partnered Wi-Fi hotspots across the world.

Finally the video below handily visualises what we have summarised above. The text and dialogue may be in Japanese but hopefully we've covered it all above so you should just sit back and enjoy the visuals. We shall keep you updated with more information as it breaks.
