Imagination is the Only Escape is a platformer from Luc Bernand (creator of the upcoming Eternity's Child for WiiWare) and is aimed for a release in late 2008 on the Nintendo DS. The game is designed to tell a story, educate people and help others profits from the game will be donated to try and stop the genocide that is happening in Darfur.

Like the film Pan's Labyrinth, Imagination is the Only Escape tells the story of a child during the holocaust. The main character in IitOE is a Jewish boy who can only escape the horrors of what is happening around him by entering a fantasy world that he created in his own imagination hence the title. This fantasy world is the setting for the majority of the game and will play like a traditional 2D platform game. Exact details on the gameplay mechanics have yet to be revealed but we do know that the game takes place on the top screen (the bottom screen will be mainly used for text and facts) and that it will be non-violent.

It's not all fantasy, though. IitOE is also set to teach children about the holocaust. The game will be filled with actual facts about the Nazi occupation and attempts to show children why racism is wrong and similar subjects. Unfortunately, this is causing unwanted controversy for IiiOE. Ignore all the sites that claim that IitOE is distasteful either they are putting the words "game", "Nazi" and "children" into the phrase "Nazi game for children" or they are paranoid parents who want their children to think that the world is perfect.

IitOE is far from distasteful. In fact, it's quite the opposite. The Anti-Defamation League (an organisation set up to "to stop the defamation of the Jewish people...to secure justice and fair treatment for all") has said that it needs to find "find new ways of teaching lessons of the Holocaust as new technologies are being developed." Luc Bernard's Imagination is the Only Escape would be a new way to do just that.

We would appreciate it if you could show your support for this game, either by posting comments here or emailing Nintendo if they decide to not support the game.
