GAME Oxford Street to close on September 8th

Earlier this year GAME was nearly wiped off the face of British high streets as the company faced administration.  Many stores were closed down due to the problems they faced and now the Oxford Street branch is to join them.

The London store is famous for its midnight launches, having previously been the place to get games as the clock struck 12.

When the current lease expires on September 8th GAME will vacate the premises, something that site owner Lazari GP had allegedly wanted to force upon them back in May.

GAME has issued a statement confirming that the branch will close but reminds visitors that there are numerous other branches in London.

"Our West End customers can visit our concession in Hamleys on Regent Street, our flagship store in Westfield Stratford, or our websites at http://www.game.co.uk or http://www.gamestation.co.uk. We also have stores in Hammersmith, Surrey Quays, and Westfield White City."

The flagship store in Westfield Stratford is unlikely to host as many midnight launches however, as it is part of the shopping complex.

GAME also stated that it is looking into other locations wtihin the West End to ensure their presence in central London isn't completely removed.

The store's staff will be relocated to its other branches, as will the inventory.
