Hardware: Big Ben GC Controller

We have tested Big Ben's controller and reached a verdict.

The first time I picked up the controller I thought it was quite big. I wondered if it was because of the company name, Big Ben Interactive, but that was not the case. The controller is big because there is actually extra rumble power included inside. This makes Big Ben's controller an ultra cool rumbling acessory, at least that is what I think.

I plugged the controller in my GameCube and already imagened myself being thrown through the office because of the double rumble feature. I booted up Extreme-G 3, because I knew the controller would rumble fiercly if I'd play that game (hey, don't laugh!). 3. 2. 1. GO! I speeded up and prepped myself to crash. Crash! The controller rumbled, though not as much as expected. I ended my rumble research project and concluded that the rumble is about 10% stronger than the official controller. Pretty cool!

The controller is on the cheaper side, which makes it an interesting buy if you don't want to spent a lot of cash. Though, I must inform you that the price is being reflected on the handling and quality of the controller. Okay, it has got some extra rumbling power, but that particular feature also makes the controller quite big and less good to handle. Also, the buttons are a bit cheaper. They are not as smooth to press and they look a bit cornier. But hey they work!

In overall, the controller works fine! Though, if quality is what your looking for you should not get this one. If you are satisfied with an average quality controller, buy the Big Ben one! It saves you some cash and it guarantees you some extra rumble power!

Score: 65/100
