Hideki Kamiya would like to make a Viewtiful Joe 3

One of the biggest injustices in the world of modern videogames is the fact that the Viewtiful Joe trilogy... never became a trilogy. Indeed, Movie Land was always set to play host to three fantastic, heart warming stories yet the third iteration just never came to fruition. Sadly, Capcom shut down Clover Studios, the studio behind the Viewtiful Joe series, in late 2006.

Speaking recently to Famitsu, series producer Hideki Kamiya claimed that he'd love to make a sequel to the 2004 Gamecube title, Viewtiful Joe 2. He even went as far as to say that he'd prefer that than a Bayonetta sequel, another one of his creations.

Viewtiful Joe was first released on the Nintendo Gamecube in 2003 as part of the 'Capcom Five' project. The game saw you, regular old Joe, attending the movies with your girlfriend Silvia. Half way through the film though, a huge robot bursts out of the screen and steals Silvia from in front of your very eyes. When this horrifying event occurs, it's up to you to jump into the world of the movies and save her from the clutches of evil. And what you find along your journey through Movie Land is far greater than a mere hostage situation... The entire universe needs your help!

With the power of your V-Watch and a little help from the wise old Captain Blue you turn into the star and hero of your own movie - Viewtiful Joe. The game sees you traverse a cel-shaded comic book land which pays homage to movies of old whilst you beat the life (or indeed, bolts) out of savage robots, ice beasts and motor cycle enthusiast Hulk Davidson (half rocker, half dinosaur, half hulk). The game received critical acclaim for its fantastic graphics, gameplay and originality. It instantly became a cult classic with its Slow Motions fights, epic boss battles and bizarre story line.

So, maybe one day we really will see how the story ends but don't hold your breath, Hamiya merely stated he would like to create a sequel and sadly developers say things like this all the time. We can only hope for the best.
