Nintendophiles: What will be the story line for Die Hard Vendetta Game Cube?
Bits Studios: We don't want to give too much of the story away at this stage, but let's just say it's not called 'Vendetta' for nothing! The game is based around five years after Die Hard with a Vengeance and we want you to experience the story fresh. In a nutshell, John McClane's daughter gets herself into a bit of a mess, and this causes a whole heap of pain for John.
Nintendophiles: Will there be real life locations from the movies or is this game totally different from the movies?
Bits Studios: The locations will match LA in many respects, but some areas of the game have obviously been tweaked for better game-play scenarios. The Nakatomi Plaza from the original film is back, completely refurbished, and the skyline you see is a true representation of LA.
Nintendophiles: How many weapons are there in the game and can you tell my readers what can of weapons can we expect?
Bits Studios: At the last count there were 18 weapons and that doesn't include any of the gadgets. McClane is a cop though; so don't expect him to be issued with flamethrowers! McClane will have to take somebody out who has one if he wants to get his mitts on one of those, or something just as fancy such as an uzi or crossbow. All of the weapons are real, even if one of them could be considered as sci-fi, but we have the photos to prove it's real - honest!
There are also many double-handed weapons too, including uzi's! Believe me, there is nothing more satisfying than fending off your foe with an uzi in either hand!
Nintendophiles: How many hours of game-play can we expect and how many levels or missions are there in Die Hard Vendetta?
Bits Studios: This can vary. If you take your time to approach scenarios in Stealth mode, the game play experience will stretch. Die Hard: Vendetta will take an average gamer a while to complete, probably 15 to 20 hours, that's for sure - and with varying tactics and hidden goodies to find, there's a good replay value too. In total, we have 11 huge levels, each broken into various missions and objectives. These levels are spread across different locations - for example one level is set in the Nakatomi Plaza - but, as you can imagine, there's a lot to do in there, while others may be in a Tuna factory by the docks...
Nintendophiles: Will there be a multiplayer mode (co-op, or deathmatchs, etc.)?
Bits Studios: We did have a multi player mode in development, but we could not do it justice in the time line we had, so we had to remove it. We did not want a weak multi player experience, as it would let down the rest of the game.
Nintendophiles: Will this game contain any cut scenes from the movies or any computer animated FMV or anything else?
Bits Studios: There will be cut scenes, but only relevant to the story of Die Hard: Vendetta.
Nintendophiles: Can you give my readers some examples of the mission objectives and puzzles throughout the game?
Bits Studios: There are many mission objectives and puzzles you will encounter and sometimes these will alter during your mission. Whilst we don't want to go into too much detail, because that would spoil the surprise, you can approach your objectives however you wish by creeping around and being sneaky, or going in all guns blazing. The stealth part of the game really allows you complete missions in many ways, and saving hostages in many different cool scenarios really works well, as you normally have to save them by smartly interacting with character and the environment at the same time.
Nintendophiles: Will there be any items that a player can blow up with their guns like chairs, bottles, lights, etc?
Bits Studios: It wouldn't be Die Hard if you couldn't cause a lot of damage would it? ;)
Nintendophiles: Will Die Hard contain any cool gadgets that John McClane can use and if so explain a few of them?
Bits Studios: There are a number of gadgets that McClane might be able to get hold of to make his life easier. Some of these include Night Vision Goggles and Portable Camera Devices that allow McClane to spy on specific locations without being there.
Nintendophiles: I hear that you can take enemies as hostages -- can you explain how that works and why is it important for the game?
Bits Studios: This is one of the most unique features to come out of Die Hard: Vendetta and it works wonderfully well. You can take anybody hostage if you're clever enough to be able to sneak up behind an enemy and grab them.
Why is this important? It's simple really. If you come across a team of mercenaries and take the leader as hostage you can get the rest of the squad to disarm. Pick the wrong guy though and you may find that they don't value his life enough as they plough bullets through him and ultimately you too.
This is particularly useful if you don't have enough ammo to take out the entire group.
Nintendophiles: Will there be any non-enemies playing a role in Die Hard vendetta to help complete a task?
Bits Studios: There are several non-enemies in the game that can help you complete a task. We believe we have taken character interaction to a new level. You can talk to anybody you meet in the game and depending on how you approach them; you'll find you may get different responses.
A lot of people don't particularly appreciate having a gun stuck in their face when spoken to (would you?) so you'll have to keep this in mind if you're looking for information or clues to solve tasks, complete missions or find answers.
Nintendophiles: What makes this FPS different from the competition and why would anybody would want to consider purchasing this game?
Bits Studios: The level of detail and character interaction, the engrossing storyline and intriguing puzzles, to the unique features such as taking enemies hostage, all come together to make a very rich product. I think the fact that we haven't just slapped a license on a First Person Shooter plays a significant role in the overall package, as we have really tried to capture a cinematic feel of the license with things like slow death cams, killer bullet, and hero mode
The game has been developed specifically for the Nintendo GameCube's hardware in mind, including the controller. We also developed the game with the Die Hard universe very much in mind and are striving to deliver what you would come to expect from the original franchise.
Nintendophiles: What type of music will be put in Die Hard Vendetta?
Bits Studios: Ambience through music is particularly important, and different locations have different themes, as you would expect. We have researched areas of LA as closely as possible and have reflected these areas well through music, but you will find some classical pieces as well as hip-hop if you are observant.
Sound in games has often been overlooked, but we have invested heavily developing a brand new state-of-the-art Dolby Digital 5.1 music department.
Nintendophiles: Will there be any famous actors adding any voices in the game?
Bits Studios: Regnald Johnson (Sergeant Al Powell from Die Hard) makes a return and performs the voiceover for Chief Powell in Die Hard: Vendetta.
Nintendophiles: Thanks for your time and I hope for the best in development of Die Hard!
Bits Studios: Thank you.
