Iwata pours cold water over Zelda Netflix reports

Reports earlier this year that Nintendo and Netflix were in preliminary discussions to bring The Legend of Zelda to the small screen were inaccurate, according to Nintendo president Satou Iwata.

The original report came from the Wall Street Journal in February, and it claimed that very early talks had begun between Nintendo and the streaming company over the possibility of the adaptation. It would be "Game of Thrones for a family audience", one source claimed.

But speaking to TIME, Iwata stated that Nintendo has "nothing new to share... in regard to the use of [Nintendo's] IPs for any TV shows or films", and also that "I can at least confirm that the article in question is not based on correct information".

The original report provoked intense levels of excitement from fans, but it looks like a Zelda TV series might for now be one bold step too far for Nintendo.
