Japan charts - Wii U goes top, 3DS overtakes PS3 lifetime sales, but Yakuza 5 opens at number one

Wii U has officially released in Japan, and official charts show the new system is off to a decent start.
Four launch titles made the Media Create top 20, and whilst they were joined by first-party big guns for 3DS like Paper Mario: Sticker Star and the still-going-strong Animal Crossing: New Leaf, it was actually Sega's Yakuza 5 on PS3 which claimed the top spot.
There is also a surprisingly strong continuing performance for Taiko no Tatsujin Wii: Super Deluxe Edition on the aging Wii, which may prove to be one of sleeper hits of the holiday period.
A Nintendo-backed push for Ubisoft's ZombiU meant the Wii U horror title also comfortably made its mark in the top 20.
Here is the full software chart for the week of December 3rd to 9th.

It may not have made the top in the software chart, but Wii U certainly did well enough to claim the top spot in hardware. It's not quite a record-breakingly first week (3DS did about 370,000, for instance), but the more interesting question has always been whether systems can maintain a good level beyond launch, and not suffer a quick, significant malaise like Vita.
Refusing to be kept out of the limelight, however, 3DS put in yet another great week that now takes its lifetime sales in Japan past those of PlayStation 3, which launched in November 2006. Nintendo systems accounted for almost 85% of all hardware sales this week.
