John Romero describes Wii U as "not interesting enough to even pay attention to"

John Romero is an industry veteran, with his work dating all the way back to classic titles such as Wolfenstein 3D.  He is now working on free-to-play titles for Facebook and the iPhone and recently sat down to speak to GamesIndustry.

During the interview John Romero was asked about his opinions on Nintendo's next console and he pulled no punches.

Mr. Romero described the Nintendo Wii U as "not interesting enough to even pay attention to anymore," before going on to suggest that if the console doesn't do too well it may be because others like him just aren't that interested in it.

He did claim that Nintendo may be able to live off their own IPs however and have made the "right decision" by making so many.

When the Wii was launched John Romero pulled in personal favours to get his hands on the console as it was so hard to come by.  However, things seemed to have changed now as he does not "really care about the Wii U or even want to find out more about it."

His recent games have been released on free-to-play platforms, such as the iPhone, and he states that he finds the Apple ecosystem to be more natural to him, while he argues Nintendo has stopped innovating.

It is not just the Nintendo Wii U that John Romero isn't interested in, he also seems to be moving away from console gaming completely.  In the interview he claims "my game playing has tended to go back towards the PC and the iPad and iPhone".
