Kirby knocks Pokémon off the top in Japan

The latest Japanese charts from Media Create are out, and it's a non-Pokémon number one for the first time in about a month.

Kirby's Dream Collection - a Wii compilation of the pink blob's best adventures to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the franchise - finds itself at the top with an impressive 100k opening. That means Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 are narrowly beaten into second place for the first time since the games launched.

To ensure the good news is rounded off for all of Nintendo's platforms, Rune Factory 4 on 3DS made a strong debut at number three.

Here is the software chart for the week of July 16th to 22nd.

Perhaps the only notable thing in the hardware chart is the question of how 3DS has not fallen lower on the eve of the impending 3DS XL. The XL not only launches in Japan on the 28th, but it launches alongside New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Onitore - the spiritual successor to the smash Brain Training games. All that will be reflected in next week's charts, so be sure to check back for the figures.
