In an interview with El País, the Super Mario 3D World Producer, Yoshiaki Koizumi and Director, Koichi Hayashida were asked about their following projects.

Hayashida first responded by saying that Super Mario 3D World is the main focus now and is taking all of their time at this moment. Interestingly enough Koizumi followed with his own statement:

“I can not reveal it now, but soon we will make an announcement.”

So there we have it. We have no idea what this could be, but all we know is that Yoshiaki Koizumi is well known for his work in the Super Mario & The Legend of Zelda series so it makes sense if your first thought was another Mario or Zelda. For now we're just going to have to play the waiting game.
