Live-action Legend of Zelda series in the works - report

The Wall Street Journal has claimed the inside scoop on a high-profile TV adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, coming from Netlix.

The series will be a live-action adaptation, based on the well-worn Zelda premise of a young boy named Link tasked with saving the world of Hyrule from darkness.

It is being billed as "Game of Thrones for a family audience", although the report stressed that producers were still at an early stage, currently seeking writers for the series. It also claims that Netflix is working closely with Nintendo on the project, who has historically been very protective of its IP.

But Netflix has recently been very ambitious in growing its original programming output, and securing Nintendo's iconic series for adaptation may turn out to be a coup for all parties. Even if the report is accurate, though, there is unquestionably a long way to go before the project becomes reality.
