MadDog Marathon raises over £1600 for Teenage Cancer Trust

Earlier this year one of our forum members, Scott 'MadDog' Manderson, passed away after a two-year battle with cancer.  As a community we wanted to honour his memory in a way that showed our connection with him and raised money for a cause that helped him a great deal.

We decided to do a 24-hour gaming marathon streamed online, in the same vain as Extra Life, to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust as the organisation helped Scott and his family a great deal.

We had two teams of people that did a 24-hour marathon back-to-back, with the UK team starting at midday on Friday 11th November and the Canadian team starting 24 hours later.  The UK team was graciously hosted by Arcade Club in Bury who let us stay there and do fundraising there.

In the lead up to the stream we had raised around £700 already, beating our initial target of £500, and during the 48 hours we managed to bring that total to just over £1600.  At present we are on £1662 and we are still accepting donations.  We will keep the donations open a little longer and you can still buy some merchandise, with at least 25% going to Teenage Cancer Trust.

Adam (username flameboy) has even promised to do another weekend stream while taking requests if we surpass £1750, so if you missed out please do consider donating to get us past £1750 (we only need another £88!).

If you were unable to watch you can see the full videos on Twitch or Luke (username Goafer) has done a time lapse video of the event, which you can see below or on his Sweaty Thumbsticks channel.

I would like to say thank you to all those that participated in the live streams and helped with the organisation (Luke, Mike, Sam, Nick, Chris, Adam), to Arcade Club for their support and kindness and to all of you who donated, watched and helped us spread the word.  We've been amazed by the strong showing of community spirit and how generous you have all been.

We hope that Scott would be pleased with what we have managed to achieve as a community and we hope his family know how much he meant to us.
