The Ubisoft conference opened with the long rumoured Mario X Rabbids and had a special guest appear on stage in the form of Shigeru Miyamoto.
After months of rumours, leaked concept art and baffled fans, gaming's worst kept secret has finally been officially announced - Mario X Rabbids. An RPG featuring the likes of Mario, Peach, Luigi and Yoshi along with a bunch of crazy Rabbid characters dressed in familiar Mario garb, it seems to play like a tactical RPG not too dissimilar from Nintendo's own beloved Fire Emblem series.
With various types of enemies (even a huge Rabbid in a DK tie), loads of weapons and some deep tactics, it seems this absurd cross-over will be a very unique entry in the series and set itself apart from already established Mario RPG series.
When the idea was coming to fruition, Miyamoto said that he spoke to Ubisoft and claimed he didn't want a 'Mario Run' type game or one that focused on platforming, instead he wanted something completely new and absurd.
