Media: Bill Trinen Discusses Skyward Sword

Bill Trinen explains the game, its gameplay and the weapon upgrade system.

As The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword gets closer and closer to release more information keeps trickling out. Nintendo of America's Bill Trinen sat down with GameSpot to discuss the game and also demonstrate it to viewers.

A lot of the material covered was a rehash of E3 but there are some interesting new facts within the fifteen minute video. Nintendo seem keen to make sure Skyward Sword is different from previous games and they have introduced a variety of new measures to do so. No longer will you necessarily have to kill the dungeon boss with the weapon you picked up in that dungeon, nor will dungeon gameplay be limited to just dungeons.

One big change is the way in which weapons are used in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Previously Link just acquired a weapon and that was it, but now they can be upgraded in a number of ways. Mr. Trinen gives the example of Link's shield, which starts off as basic but you can upgrade it and get a number of different shields in Skyward Sword. During the game you will collect treasures, artefacts and rupees and these can be exchanged for upgrades to items such as your shield, the Beetle and more.

The majority of the video is dedicated to Bill Trinen showing off Skyward Sword and talking us through it. Obviously it contains spoilers so anyone looking for a fresh experience when they play the game should avoid seeing it.
