As well as a new trailer, new playable characters have also been shared for Mario Kart 7. You'll be able to race as Metal Mario and Lakitu for the first time (though we don't know what chaos races will descend to in the case of the latter).

There's also a new first-person camera mode. Coupled with optional gyro controls, it looks like players can experience Mario Kart in a whole new way if they so choose.

The game will use the 3DS' StreetPass feature too. Nearby Mario Kart 7 owners will be able to wirelessly trade pre-recorded ghost data to race against. Once players have traded data, they'll also be able to find each other online. It was also confirmed that the online mode would allow eight racers to duke it out simultaneously.
